Common signs
- An eye turns in, out, up or down
- Double vision
- A child closes one eye or tilts the head to see
How we treat it
In children we check the vision in each eye as well as the alignment. A lazy eye (amblyopia) can come with a squint and needs its own treatment.
Treatment may be glasses, other non-surgical care or a surgical opinion. If surgery is needed, we explain where it would be done.
What to expect
Before the visit
Bring glasses, old photos that show the eye turn and any earlier patching or operation records.
Examination
We check the alignment, the vision and possible causes.
Your plan
We explain what each option aims to improve, and any referral.
Common questions
Are squint and lazy eye the same?
No. Squint is about alignment; lazy eye is about how vision develops. They can occur together.
Does every squint need an operation?
No. Age, vision and the cause decide the plan.
Can adults get a new squint?
Yes. A new eye turn or double vision needs prompt care. With a severe headache or weakness, get emergency help.
Should I start patching at home?
Not without advice. Patching is planned after a full check.
Do glasses help a squint?
Sometimes. Glasses help vision develop and can sometimes improve the alignment.
