Common signs
- One or both upper lids sit lower than normal
- The lid covers part of the pupil
- A child lifts the chin to see
How we treat it
Dr. Samir checks how high the lid sits, how well it moves and how the eye closes. Ptosis surgery is planned for suitable cases, including children born with a drooping eyelid (congenital ptosis).

What to expect
Before the visit
Bring old photos that show the change, glasses prescriptions and any operation notes.
Examination
For children, we also check vision and the need for glasses.
Your plan
Dr. Samir explains the operation, how it balances lid height with eye closure, and whether a small difference may remain.
Common questions
Should a child born with a drooping eyelid be checked?
Yes, now. A low lid can affect how vision develops, even if it looks only cosmetic. The timing of surgery is decided for each child.
Is a drooping eyelid the same as extra eyelid skin?
No. Extra skin is treated with blepharoplasty; a low lid needs ptosis correction. Some people have both.
Does lifting the lid remove the need for glasses?
Not necessarily. Eyelid position and vision are separate; your child may need both treated.
Is sudden drooping the same as ptosis from birth?
No. Sudden drooping, especially with double vision or headache, needs urgent medical care.
