Diabetic eye check-up in Vadodara

Diabetes (“sugar”) can damage the small blood vessels of the retina, often before you notice any change. A diabetic eye check-up in Vadodara with Dr. Meera Shah finds these changes early.

Also called a sugar eye check (ડાયાબિટીસમાં આંખની તપાસ).

When to get checked

  • You have diabetes, even if you see clearly
  • Blurred or changing vision
  • New spots or dark patches in your vision
  • Trouble reading, from swelling in the centre of the retina (macular oedema)

How we treat it

Dr. Meera examines the retina after dilating drops, with scans when needed. Depending on what she finds, you may need only regular checks, or diabetic retinopathy treatment with retinal laser, injections or surgery.

What to expect

  1. Eye check

Bring your diabetes reports, medicines and any old eye records. The drops blur vision for a few hours.

  2. Results

Dr. Meera explains whether the retina is healthy, needs watching, or needs treatment.

  3. Next check

You get a date for your next eye check. Share the results with your diabetes doctor.

Common questions

Do I need a check if I can see clearly?

Yes. Diabetes can damage the retina before your vision changes.

When should I have my first diabetic eye check?

For adults with type 2 diabetes, when diabetes is found. For type 1, within five years. Children and pregnancy need their own plan.

Is a test for glasses enough?

No. A glasses test checks your number. A diabetic eye check looks at the retina.

Will I need laser or injections?

Not necessarily. The examination decides whether you need regular checks, laser, injections or other treatment.

My sugar is better now. Can I skip eye treatment?

No. Better sugar control helps, but it does not replace treatment already advised for your retina.
